Wireless Alarm System Vs. Hard-Wired- Choosing The Best Option For Your Needs

Once you have decided to purchase a security system, one of the first decisions you will have to make is whether to get a wireless alarm system or one that is hard wired.  There are many factors that weigh into this decision, including your home, lifestyle and budget.  A security system professional can advise you on the best solution for you.

Wireless Alarm Systems vs. Hard Wired - Factors to Consider

Wireless alarm systems are easy to install and require no disruption to your home.  This is an advantage for anyone who rents or who doesn't want to tear into existing walls in order to run wires.  Devices included in wireless systems run on batteries, but can also be plugged into your household power. We do also include a battery backup feature, so that there is no chance of a battery going out in the night and making you vulnerable to crime or fire.

Wireless systems utilize devices that communicate with each other by radio frequency.  In contrast, hard wired systems use wires that run inside your walls, connecting all of the devices to each other.  If you are building a home, you can have a hard-wired system installed during construction, and achieve whole home security that is powered by your home's electrical system.  This eliminates the need to deal with batteries. However, it can open up a whole list of other potential issues that are harder to fix or replace down the road. For example, if a connection is no longer being made, it would be much harder to troubleshoot where the problem is within the mess of wires throughout your home.

Wireless alarm systems are portable, whereas your hard-wired system will stay with the house if you move.  There are pros and cons to both hard wired and wireless systems, but both offer basic features and add-ons that enhance security at home.  Sensors, surveillance cameras and personal emergency response devices work with both types of security systems.  A security assessment will determine which system is right for you.
